SANCTIFIED

SANCTIFIED

John 17:13-19   13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

Jesus is about to return to heaven and is praying to the Heavenly Father.

He is saying to the Father, keep them from evil, for they are not of this world, as I am not of this world. He is speaking here about the believers.

Being sanctified is not a religious term. Sanctification is the will of God through the truth, which makes it a holy term.

John 8:31-32   31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 4:23-24   23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Being sanctified means made holy or set apart for sacred services.

A sanctifier is a person or thing that sanctifies or makes holy, that is, the Holy Spirit.

Sanctify or to make holy means free from sin or to purify. To be set apart as holy, to make sacred.

There are different levels of sanctification, they are directly connected to your level of spiritual growth and maturity.

The first manifestation of sanctification is at the moment of conversion. (accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior). Believing that Jesus gave his life so you could be saved.

The manifestation happens when a person becomes a believer, receiving Jesus through the new blood covenant with their confession of faith.

At that time God sets you apart as sons and daughters through the new covenant. Instantly at that tie the Holy Spirit seals your spirit.

We are sanctified by the word, by the blood, by the Holy Spirit, by separating yourself from unclean things.

2 Corinthians 6:16-18     16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

The Word is saying, stop worshiping idols, for you are the temples of the living God. and God has said, I will dwell with you and I will be your God, and you shall be my people.

Come out from the things of the world and be separate and I will receive you and be a Father to you, then you shall be my sons and daughters.

Hebrews 13:11-12   11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

This is letting us know that the animal sacrifice in the blood of them was not enough. It took the blood of Jesus to sanctify us. Burned without the camp, means the carcass of the animal was burned outside the camp. Symbolizing Gods wrath against sin.

Under the old covenant, which is the mosaic law the chief priest would bring the blood of animals into the holy place as an offering for sin.

With the new covenant by the blood of Jesus all our sins, past, present and future have been washed away if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Ephesians 5:26-27   26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

This verse is telling us of the final view when the church is presented in perfect holiness at the coming great day. The washing of water by the word actually means the Word washes and cleanses our soul and spirit the same way water cleanses us.

Hebrews 10:28-31   28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

What do you think a person who shows no respect for the Son of deserves? If a person looks at the holy Blood that Jesus shed for us as no different than an ordinary person’s blood.

He insults the very spirit that God gave out of his loving kindness. This person deserves to be punished. God says, I alone have the right to take revenge.

Falling into the hands of Judgement of the living God is a terrifying thing. The Lord will judge those who are not sanctified by the Word, the Blood and the Holy Spirit.

If you are a believer, Gods mercy, grace and truth will set you free.

Right before Jesus returned to the father, he prayed and asked the father to sanctify us through the truth. He said, for their sakes I sanctify myself that they also might be sanctified.
